Talk title: Advancing Blockchain Technologies for Enhanced Traceability and Transparency in the Carbon in Forest Products Supply Chain
Assistant Professor, Forest Resource Economics
Department of Forestry, Michigan State University

ForesTrust, introduced by the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, revolutionizes supply chain traceability. It offers a streamlined and efficient way to accurately track wood and wood fiber, from their origins in the forest all the way to the end consumer. Moreover, ForesTrust simplifies the financial and administrative complexities associated with forest certification. Notably, this system addresses the contemporary demand for carbon tracking, facilitating the monitoring of carbon credits and climate accountability. This presentation will explore the potential application of blockchain technology to establish a forest product and carbon tracing system. This innovative approach aims to enhance both national and international compliance and transparency in forest carbon markets.
