Abandoned mine lands (AML) in Appalachia are becoming attractive sites for reforestation-based carbon removal projects. Ms. Dombrowski will speak about this topic, including best practices for reforesting AML, available carbon sequestration data for native Appalachian tree species, and opportunities for integrating community benefits planning into ecological restoration efforts, based on her experience supporting a pilot project with Appalachian Voices.
